ear Reader,
In the four-hundred and seventeenth year of the Age of Exaltation, his eminent and majestic sire, High King Orthast II, by the grace of the Lords, did commission the compilation of this codex to be the definitive scholarly reference for information regarding the Realms of our world and their inhabitants. I, Arvan Leckford of Havenguard, as Royal Chronicler and Lord Warden of the Civic Libraries of Haven, do graciously accept his majesty's appointment of myself as the sole editor and director of this monumental work. I have supervised the compilation of this codex with a strong devotion to factual certainty; not allowing my personal opinions to interfere with the pursuit of the scholar’s unblemished truth. I would like to extend my gratitude to the many learned men and women without whom the ambitions of this resource could not have been accomplished.
For your convenience, most honorable reader, the content of this codex has been divided into five broad categories; each in turn containing many detailed subcategories. These areas are arranged as follows:
Physical World: This section explores the natural world of Renth, including it's physical characteristics, organic bounties, and wild inhabitants.
Races: This section discusses the ten Loridic peoples, as well as discussing the charge of the Royal Lerbe Consulate.
Civilization: This portion contains a detailed exposition of current society. Topics include modern commodities, settlement statistics of Nirune, and the religious practices of Nirunian folk.
History: Exploring our past, this portion is most important for any student. We must study our history well, for progress can only be attained with a knowledge of past triumphs and defeats.
Index: This document contains many terms with which you will not be familiar. The index will help to expand and enrich your Renthian vocabulary.
These areas were carefully chosen and documented, however, more information is always present to be discovered. It is my sincere hope that you too will one day contribute to this great resource. May Isquin guide you as you embark on your quest for knowledge.
