Lorecast Episode 3 Released

Postby Thogrim » Sat Jun 13, 2009 6:17 pm

Hello one and all. I hope you are all enjoying your weekend and will have nothing better to do than to sit back, tune into our third Lorecast, and enjoy listenning to us rambling about gameplay!

Personally this is my favorite episode and it is absolutely jam-packed with discussion.

As always, we'd like LOTS of comments, if you please.

The Download link is here:

Enjoy!

I receive a "safari can't find server" message. And so I can't hear the podcast.

www.realmsofrenth.com/Lorecast3.mp3 someone forgot what server we are on now :P

Edit: Just finished listening. Very interesting one this week. I do think we need to do a lot of testing to see what may or may not be possible.

We should have a meeting to discuss what we should do going forward for the next stage of the prototype. We have a guy that runs around and can sorta interact with NPCs and objects. We need to push this further.

We really need to start doing more concept art for game UI, rather than just places/creatures/races. Knowing what it will look like to choose the character, for trading, for combat, etc.

Garfield - that's the same link I posted. I don't see the difference? :?

And I agree, this is all speculation and we will certainly have to make some cuts and sacrifices. But I do think it is all very interesting food for thought.

Good stuff.
You guys are getting better.
Just one thing really bothered me. Every once in a while you would get to a question that you had already answered. You often pass over them or just kind of touch on them briefly.
In further editions, I think it would be nice to edit superfluous questions out, or when you get to them, just do a nice little recap for the audience.
What will the next one be about?
How many episodes do you think we will eventually have? As we cover more and more info, or have a quiet week, will it just be a shorter episode, or will you save up to keep it an hour?

Those are good points, Duman. Duely noted on the same-question point, we'll have to try to avoid that.

As for future episodes, we were thinking of making these every other week. Not because we have a lack of material to talk about, lore itself will always be plentiful, but Macar spent over 8 hours on editing this week and it's time that he wants to spend working on the project, which I agree with. It's a good idea, I think.

So in the future I see these being produced every two weeks.

Alright.
As a side note, I would really like to see an episode dedicated to the races, gods, creatures and peoples on RoR.
I think that would be both entertaining and beneficial.

Nice. Next time you might be able to add in archery :o

I was thinking food can add an extra amount on your fatigue 'bar' for 24 hours of so.

I dont like the idea of making things like plate armour, make you not be able to swim, to me it would be annoying.

We should have a meeting to discuss what we should do going forward for the next stage of the prototype. We have a guy that runs around and can sorta interact with NPCs and objects. We need to push this further.

This would be nice, but is there a time we can all be online?

we might not need a meeting if people would just reply to threads!

http://www.realmsofrenth.com/RoRforums/ ... .php?t=315

I believe the first things we should implement for NPC interaction are conversation and trade. That's why I started a thread about those exact things and tried to spur things forward.

Then we should also make sure to implement time cycle, containers, as well as potions (the ability to drink them). After that I think combat is the big one.

If I recall, for the prototype we weren't going to try to implement the other systems, am I right? (by the other systems I mean no sneaking, no crafting, no magic.)

No magic? :( That would be sad indeed if we couldn't show off our magic system. However I'd imagine that we'll re-release the demo a bunch of times until all of our systems are ready. It can be our test world and when the game itself is fully playable, we could start making the continent itself.

My estimation is that I will be 25 when we release the final version. And I don't mind that.

The end prototype version should have everything you want to show that will make the game stand out from the others.

The first prototype version though just needs to be the basic systems for the game to be playable, so that we can then test, test, test! The whole point of building the prototype is to test what works and what doesn't.

It seemed like you had your speakers on, because in your track you could hear me and Thogrim at the same volume as you. So I had to go through and mute whenever you werent talking.
