I finally have regular internet access again.

Just found out that C4 1.6 has turned into C4 2.0 and been pushed back another month or so.

I will try to be around a bit more once its out, until then I still need to get my PC over here from the UK.

Yeah, I did check it out some time ago when we first discussed the possiblity of an engine switch. How seriously are you looking at it though? I thought we were going to stick with C4 until we had at least something.

hi dja, btw, welcome to the project :P Was it Reaper who convinced you to change your name?

Well, personally if the Port Isles looked this way I couldn't be happier. But I will have to check into the editor itself more thoroughly.

Unity, I'm here to report, is quite easy to use. I managed to create a version of Karthor minor within a couple of hours. (Most of that time was spent learning the basics). Some pics for your consideration- I think the cliffs of Caulkyra dont look too bad- I was definately expecting worse.

He's been in the states for some time now ;)

Anyway, yeah, I'm all for making it official- at least temporarily. If the new version of C4 ever comes out it might fix a lot of our problems and if so we could switch it back. models, textures and even terrain is all pretty easy to transfer- so it's always a door we can leave open.

PS- importing models into unity (though I've not tried it yet) seems like the easiest ever. There's no importing dialogue or anything- you just put the files into your project folder and they import automaticaly in real time- pretty sweet!

This actually looks really good, and from the few demos I've tried it seems like it can handle the things we need it to handle. A few questions;

- Are there any serious graphic or technical limitations that would cause us to be forced to change any planned features?

- Will our huge scale be an issue?

- Does it handle maps and textures well?

- Does it handle open-source style developing and infinite customization as well?

- Can the terrain be made more detailed? I realize a lot of that will be vegetation and models but as it's one of our biggest focuses, will it hurt or limit the overall design?

If these things pass - I'm all for it. I think the C4 engine will honestly require too much of any volunteer developers that join, whereas this one seems to be pretty easy to just jump right into. That's what we're looking for. Nothing is wrong with a compromise.

Stupid Japanese characters and gameplay aside, this looks quite promising at the beginning.

MMO, but the scenery is nice.

Obviously, the online demo.

And depth of field is pretty darn cool.

Overall I think it's promising to say the least.
