So the last time I posted here I was starting a new job. Well.. I got fired from that job (I don't really see it as my fault), but in less than a week I got another job, this time it's probably going to stick around. The pay is less, but the job is a lot more enjoyable and way easier!

Anyway- that's my update. I haven't been very present for the past couple of days what with training for the new job and getting used to the new gig. Also, this job is part time, so I'm soon going to be looking for something else to help me supplement my income. So, hopefully, Thogrim will step up to the plate when he gets back from camping because I'm not sure what kind of time I'm going to have.

I'm doing to following starting now:

- I'm going to work 1 hour per day at minimum on Nirune.
- I'm going to record all productive time in a book to hold myself accountable.
- I'm going to look into setting up a weekly meeting for us on IRC.

More on the last point: I have most of you on MSN, but I think it would be a good habit to start holding "meetings" in an open setting where anyone who wants to attend/listen in can do so. The purpose of these meetings will be to talk about what we're all working on, discuss how we're working toward our goals, as well as just chat and catch up with eachother.

Hey everyone, I'm still working behind the scenes- I know you havent seen much of me lately. There's lots of stuff I've dont that I just haven't had time to post- so stay tuned.

I'm going to make a habit of posting my logged hours once a month, just for accoutability's sake:

October 15th (first day of recording): 2.5 hours
16: 1
17: 1
18: 1
19: 0
20: 1
21: 3.5
22: 2.5
23: 0
24: 0.5
25: 1.5
26: 1
27: 1
28: 3
29: 1
30: 4
31: 3

And that's it :)

Hidie ho folks,

Just a quick update. You may have noticed that I'm not showing much progress lately on the forums- but fear not! I'm working currently behind the scenes on something big. I'm doing a re-write of our game-design document- which is a very large task, if you didn't know.

Just to give you a hint, I'm currently writing page 8 of the first section- and the first section is just the overview. I've still got 9 to go after I finish it, and many of those will be longer.

Stay tuned, I'll probably post it somewhere when I get a decent chunk of it done.

Hey all,

I'l going to be on hiatus from the internets untill a couple of days after thanksgiving. I may find time to comment on things, but no time for serious work.

You see, we have many house-guests coming to use because we're hosting thanksgiving this year. There are gonna be 10 in our 1 bedroom appartment!

The following is a state of the commonwealth address:

Dear Nirunians, it is no secret that our project has looked pretty bad on paper for the past year. The most recent release of the prototype was back in April of '09. Site participation is fairly dismal overall, and we've lost a number of key members (mostly Rhys). We don't have a modeler we dont have an animator and we don't have a programer with the the kind of time on his hands that we need. Yes, things are looking bleak.

But I'm not giving up, not yet. Yes, I said yet. You see, I'm reaching my breaking point and for the first time in ages, I'm giving serious thought to leaving the project permanently. I realize that as the leader of this project (unofficially) I'd be killing the project by doing so. But frankly the project has been on life support for a very long time, maybe it is time to pull the plug?

Well, it's not time yet, I'm going to give this one last chance. My plan is to stay on till my birthday on January 12, 2010. If by that time, we haven't made any progress on our prototype, and we havent made any more models or have some darn good orthographics, I'm done. I'm going to be sure that I've done all I can before I quit. I'll have the new GDD and all gameplay areas finished. When I'm done with that I'll do whatever needs done up until the deadline. I will work as hard as ever right up till the end.

Now I want to say before going on, this could sound like I'm blaming Thogrim or DJA for not having the time to contribute- but I'm not. I understand that RLs can get in the way. I'm not mad at anyone. I just don't want to continue to work on a project that wasn't originally my vision, and a project who's completion is so totally out of my control.

To that end, if and when I quit, I'm going to be thinking long and hard about where to go from here. I may start my own project (with a modest scope, something I could do on my own with no help). or I may look for a mod. Or, since we did so much work here, we may discuss what we can do with the whole world of Renth- we could make some different kind of game, or we could even make the whole thing a mod for some other game, or we could make it a tabletop RPG setting- there's lots of possibilities.

So, folks, lets keep pushing till January 12th. Then we'll see where we are and where we're going next.

Till then, my loyal citizens,

We've discussed this at length (On the new IRC channel no less!) and I am going to give my sincere all in the next month+. We'll make this work. Part of the problem is me. Well, most of it, obviously. The other part is our inability to keep our great members. Real life sucks sometimes and everybody gets busy. We all just need to find the time to dig in and try to work past it as a team. (Says the black pot to the kettle.)

A really great way to communicate is through the new IRC. It keeps everybody on track - everyone can talk at length about problems. I plan to be on every day, as often as possible. I think we have the talent to do this. We have a very small and reasonable goal now that we are focusing on a smaller region. We just need to pull it off. Easier said than done, but I'm not ready to see Renth die. (Or be turned into an isometric dungeon crawler. Heheh.)

Forge onward we shall. We'll see how it goes.

Not to mention the fact that I just spent $20 to renew the website and I'd really rather not waste that. :P

macar i agree with you, we shared opinions on msn.

i agree the new IRC is useful but we had this topic a few weeks ago and if anything sinse then, we've actually lost members, i hate the thought of this project closing shop, its been a solid thing that we've all participated in for a long time, we've all devoted so much time with the hope of seeing it through to soemthing more, but like real life things never seem to go as planned, ill try to get some orthographics done, but with no modeller and one very over burdened technician i believe our days are numbered.
