First off, I have no idea what you guys are talking about.
Second, I believe Warhammer 40k has been using the "Eldar" title for quite a few years now.
Third, I know you guys are joking so Hahaha.
Fourth, I'm doing fine. Everything up here at art college is going pretty peachy. I don't have much time for digital painting, and even the images I just posted were for a class. But its fun, enlightening stuff. I have a few oil paints and figure studies I could post up, but I lack any way to get them into a digital format.
(no camera/scanner big enough) I wish I had some time to pop back on here and help you guys out, but free time is at a premium.

I hope you are kidding... Tolkien began writing the Silmarillion in 1914, and 40k didn't come out till the late 80s.

Like I said, I have no idea what your talking about. Your throwing some "words" around that I'm sure predate my life.
(never meant to implied that eldar wasn't first used by LOTL, just not familiar with that type of language. Thought you were talking about something RoR related)

Hooray double post.
Here is pretty much the final version. Would you kindly give me some critiques or advice on this guy? I think I'm going to put it up for critique on CA.org, but I want your opinions first.

I have obviously done an Eldar (which I'm hoping to revise) and a Space Marine one. I am also going to be making an ork warboss piece and a tyranid warrior one in the coming weeks.

It's hard to say anything about proportions when dealing with space marines: some artists choose to take the exaduration of the size father than others. Yours is more on the exadurated end- is this meant to be standard power armor, or the tactical dreadnought type? For my taste I like them a little closer to these proportions: http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t65/ ... Marine.png (though that has to be the lamest chapter paintjob ever).

However, youre not the only one who likes them oversized: http://www.wallpapergate.com/data/media ... _28163.jpg

The other thing is I'm a little unclear on what position he's in, is it a half kneel, or just a lunge? I think something's off about how he's standing.

As you can tell, I kind of went with the really exaggerated proportions and armor. I thought it helped bring back a little of the vibe it had in the 80's and, well, to be honest, there isn't much subtlety in 40k.
Which is awesome.
As for the pose, yes, you could imagine he is either lunging or stepping forward. The loin cloth obscures it a little, but really now, would it be a Space Marine chaplain without one?

Alright, well I only have something like five weeks of college left. And then something like four months of summer break, soooooooo, maybe I'll be able to help out in a little while. If it is something like june, and I haven't done any work, then feel free to yell at me. My practice might as well help you guys out.
This summer, in addition to all the craziness that is associated with my family, I intend to read at least five books, get a job, and go camping. But of course, I need to keep painting.
And thats where YOU guys come in.

WAAAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHH!!!

This was my last required piece. I say required as I only needed four, but I have time for a fifth, so I might as well go for it. I'm thinking Necrons.

Great 40k work duman, its all looking pretty good, the only peice that i have a critique for is the chaplain, with the spikes and the helmet he looks a bit too similar to an emperors children noise marine. The ork is really great, good old orkz...

perhaps the more typical death helmet would help?

Its incredible how many things games workshop has ripped off from other sources which considering their incredibly strict copy right policy is disgustingly hipocritical of them, just the other day i found out the the famed and cherished land raider crusader is in fact ripped off from the english Mk VI Crusader...

I wouldn't say ripped off, that sounds mean.
I would say influenced. In reality, all science fiction is in some way related to previous work. And really, I enjoy the type of atmosphere they created. The references to WWI and WWII add to the fiction really well, it really helps create a relatable base to the fiction.
However, even if WH40k has utilized some previous ideas, they have also created a huge amount of really original fiction.
As for the whole Chaplain mask, I almost did do the skull face, but I found an amazing (and old) image of this space marine and wanted to do a little homage to it.

ah ok cool.

i do enjoy 40k but fantasy for some reason was my forte... dunno why considering im more into futuristic than fantasy, just love orcs and goblins and ogres.

ive actually still got a 500 point goblin spider rider army on display in my room.

I have a theory that I am currently trying to prove.
There are two types of people in the world.
Those who like Dragon Age and those who like Mass Effect.
You probably like the former, where I am more inclined to enjoy the latter.
Both are great, and enjoyable choices. They are just different.

I like the looks of both. However, you may find it surprising that I'm more attracted to Mass Effect. Surprising since I'm definitely not a sci-fi type normally, I like it but I've always been the fantasy type. None the less, to me DragonAge looks a little tired in the cliche department (still a great game I'm sure) while Mass Effect is a lot fresher, especially to someone who's not big on scifi.

Alright, I guess I could call these the final versions.
It was really fun, but more importantly, I think I learned a lot.
Comments and critiques are, as always, welcome.
