The Commonwealth

In the Dwarrow discussion, Macar brought up a great point, of how cultures aren't easily definable. They can be defined by conflict of thoughts and movements, as much as they can be by unanimous thought or movement.

And surely that kind of cultural conflict will be felt most where there are lots of differing cultures. I'd just like to discuss with you, how you think the Commonwealth should be handled. Not everyone in the commonwealth will have an altruistic affinity for this political formation. At the same time, there will be many who do.

Here are the main questions:

-What kind of resistance will there be, to the integration?

-What kind of cultural mutations will we see?

-How do we present/introduce this to the player?

The last one specifically. Perhpas the magic of the game, is that you MAY hear others speak about it first, or that you may find your way into the city first. And depending on who you speak to you will get a different perspective. In fact I think it is. Maybe that question is moot, when we're creating something third dimensional as it were.
This signature will remind me that I need to be working on something.

I think that this would be a most excellent open podcast discussion.

Well I've suggested before that there was some schism within the commonwealth, but it could definitely stand more exploration.

Basicaly, what I suggested is that the Cortar are way more enthusiastic about the commonwealth than the other races, but the Ekkash are hardcore supporters as well (though, as we mentioned, there are those among the Ekkash who believe they have strayed to far from their traditional culture). The Astar are also pretty close to the Cortar, but they always make their decisions slowly and sometimes will disagree based on their personal feelings. So in a sense they're sort of independent.

The Lanviri and Delarrim are not happy about the Cortar controlled commonwealth and are often play the opposition. They still, as we said, miss their own glory days. The Morim traditionally sided with them, but in the past century they've grown increasingly estranged politically, and now are more independent.

The Dwarrow and Wirrathi are most concerned with their trade interests, and economic policies. Other matters they are usually swayed by whomever puts for the most convincing argument. The Tiritan are unpredictable and follow their hearts, always favoring peace and giving.

This dosent say anything of the cultural movement and how the everyday people feel about it- it's more about what the politician's do. I'm sure there are differing oppions out there.
